Dr. Korth received his Bachelor of Arts degree at UCLA in 1977, with a double major in psychology and sociology. After several years in education, Dr. Korth decided to go back to school to pursue becoming a healthcare practitioner. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1990 and has practiced in Pasadena ever since.
In May 2000, Dr. Korth opened his own optometric practice and remains in the same location today. As a result of the office expansion and remodeling in 2013, Dr. Korth, his staff, and his patients now enjoy both state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and a beautiful optical frame dispensary. The office is adjacent to Huntington Memorial Hospital in southwest Pasadena in the midst of the largest healthcare corridor of the city. Dr. Korth enjoys long-time relationships with many other healthcare practitioners in this community, covering numerous specialty areas of health care and vision care.
Dr. Korth’s training at UCLA and SCCO has enabled him to properly care for his patients each day. He emphasizes family vision care, seeing patients of all ages in the office. Dr. Korth has over 35 years of experience in contact lenses. He enjoys the challenge each day of helping patients to enjoy clear, comfortable vision with their contacts, even if they have astigmatism, do better with daily lenses, or need special multifocal lenses. Dr. Korth recently became certified to treat glaucoma. This has added to the many common ocular conditions that he treats, such as corneal abrasions and various types of conjunctivitis.
Dr. Korth and his wife, René, are involved in Young and Healthy, a non-profit organization in Pasadena dedicated to providing health care to children in need, since its inception over 34 years ago.
During his years at SCCO, Dr. Korth had the opportunity to assist many patients from the Eye Care Center of Fullerton to the West Los Angeles/Brentwood Veterans Affairs outpatient vision clinic. During these externships, Dr. Korth was exposed to a wide variety of patients with different ocular conditions and needs. This training, along with the current requirement of 50 continuing education hours every two years, enables Dr. Korth to stay current with the latest ocular health and optical technology information so that he can better serve his patients.
Dr. Korth was born and raised in South Pasadena, where he lives with his wife, René. They have been parishioners at Holy Family Church for over 40 years and enjoy the local community. Dr. Korth stays fit by running regularly along the Arroyo Seco near and around the Rose Bowl. He has completed three marathons, two Pasadena Marathons in 2009 and 2010 and the LA Marathon in 2019 . He has also run half marathons, including the inaugural Rose Bowl Half Marathon in 2007, the Pasadena Half Marathon in 2013 and numerous others in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
